Newark Training Procedure

Clearance Delivery/Ground

  • Level 1 material covered in Level Specific Training Criteria
  • Newark's Valid Exits and Gates
    • Student should be able to tell which fixes/VORs belong to which gate
    • Student should understand scratchpad entries and be able to input entries during SB
    • Student should understand that a scratchpad entry should not be placed when no overlying controller is present
    • Student should understand sequencing based on the exit chart (located at the top right of the Ground section of the EWR SOP)
  • Common airway and route amendments
  • Newark's departure procedures
    • Identification of the appropriate initial climb altitude
    • Identification of the appropriate departure controller
      • Student should understand how to determine if an N90 controller covers EWR departures
    • Student should understand when to use EWR#, when to use PORTT#, and which DPs to avoid
    • Student should understand the impact of LGA using ILS 13 on EWR departures
  • Basic Class Bravo VFR Procedures (Class B VFR Operations)
    • Student should understand the use of discrete squawk codes
    • Student should understand the assignment of initial altitude
    • Student should understand when to specify the departure frequency
    • Student should understand the weather minimums for VFR flight
  • Skyline Route Procedures
    • Student should understand when to omit an initial altitude
    • Student should understand how to include Skyline Route phraseology in a VFR clearance
  • Student should understand how to provide services to KLDJ
  • Departure sequencing and separation
  • Familiarization with the airport diagram
  • Airport-specific movement and non-movement areas
  • Airport runway ownership and coordination procedures
    • Student should understand the proper phraseology for coordination of runway crossings and blanket crossings
